About Christine Lustig Ortiz

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than twelve years of experience in the field of mental health.  I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and my Master’s in Psychology with a Marital and Family Emphasis from the California Graduate Institute in Westwood and Irvine, California.  I also completed Paralegal Studies at New York University in Manhattan, New York.  I believe I have also become the psychotherapist and wellness coach I am today due to my extensive international travels during the eleven years in between my Bachelor and Master Degree studies.

I currently enjoy my private practice in Southern California in which I have worked with individuals, couples, and families for the past eight years.  I have a broad range of training and experience which includes helping people heal from complex trauma and co-morbid disorders, couples struggling with issues that may include infidelity, co-parenting, and infertility, people in recovery from eating disorders, substance abuse and other addictions, grief, illness, and working with the whole family.  I love working with adolescents and children.  I also enjoy running group therapy for people who want to reduce stress by focusing on specialized topics such as creating life balance and health and wellness.

I am thankful to be in the presence of people from all walks of life on a daily basis.  Human diversity and multi-cultural intelligence are very important to me.  Throughout the years in both my education, personal life, and my travels, I have learned philosophies that incorporate studies such as mindfulness, meditation, and body work such as yoga and dance.  Somehow focusing on each breath and accepting our current emotional state makes each moment peaceful to anticipate regardless of tough times.  This balancing may create a continuous sense of calm, and motivation and creativity are sustained.   Compassion for ourselves and others is enhanced.

I personally utilize these mindful practices daily to help me feel fulfilled with communication and relationships.  Listening and being listened to are important in my interactions with others, and I find that it is easier to cultivate authenticity.  I am currently writing about some of my life experiences with the hope of creating greater connectedness and healing with and between all who are interested.  I believe hope and resiliency can be fostered and sustained in all of us.  I believe it is wonderful that each of us defines happiness differently, and that we can all seek to learn what our happiness is and will continue to be as long as we keep hope in our heart.
