I Believe

We all have inner wisdom that is special and unique. We find it through deepening our self observation and inquiry, and creating a learning relationship with our failures, rather than one of shame and regret.

About Barbara Young

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist because I believe that therapy can be a powerful tool to rebuild from loss and restore confidence, peace, and joy within ourselves. Counseling sessions serve as a safe, non-judgmental way to explore and identify emotions, their origins, and their role in daily life. I also work with you to connect and understand the thoughts and actions that accompany your emotions. This practice supports health and well-being. Loss, pain, confusion, worry, and anger top the list of emotions explored in counseling.
While working on healing with many individuals, I also specialize in working with couples and families. Couples seek therapy because of ongoing arguments, diminished sex life, lack of communication, problems with the kids, or some other crisis. My work with couples includes a combination of building practical skills and deepening intimacy.  I also see families with teens and adults, working on healing old wounds that still affect closeness and learning new ways to communicate and connect.
My focus is on identifying the places where things are outmoded or stuck, why they are and how to change and move forward. I model compassionate curiosity about emotions and changes sought. Counseling often begins with inquiry, resource building, and education, but then shifts into listening, re-imagining, and creative problem solving.
